heineken: the experience

the heineken experience deserves it's own post.
when my mom went in december, before i arrived on the scene, she told me how awesome the brewery was.
so, i knew that this time around we had to go.

you walk into the brewery, and right away your given an awesome wrist band with two beer tokens on it.
so right off the bat you're intrigued.

first we walked through the history of the company.
adriaan heineken started the company when he was 22.
which kind of makes me feel like i should be more productive with my life...but not really.
i loved the vintage posters, awards, and coasters. i was pretty bummed there weren't replicas for sale in the gift shop. i did get a nice t-shirt...but before that, one of the best parts is the simulator ride where you watch a video from the p.o.v of the beer. with a moving floor and water spraying out into your face, it's realistic. it's fun.

afterwards you get to go into the taste room where you are taught the proper way to drink beer (big gulp, don't sip at the foam) and then you get to make an awesome video.
don't judge me...i was buzzed.
anyway, then you get to make your way into the bar and grab your two free beers.
they were yummy.
kendall doesn't like beer, so i took hers and in total had five before noon.
that led to this:
i can be a weirdo some times. but it's all good. plus i'm obsessed with my new nike's that were purchased in amsterdam.
so, long story short, when in amsterdam, go to the heineken experience. it's awesome, it's fun, it's worth it!

kendall's visit: part three

so, we went to amsterdam when kendall was here.
the night before, we were out with the boys and decided, "hey! why don't you guys come with us?!"
well, since they are pretty rad, they said, "okay!"
so, henning, jan, kendall, and myself left the train station bright, early, and tipsy, headed for amsterdam.
to chronicle our journey, i'll write it in the form of a love letter.

dear amsterdam,
i think i'm in love with you.
actually, i know that i am.
after experiencing you one time prior, i had to come back for more.
not once, not twice, but three times.

i love your architecture.

i love your graffiti.

i love your canals.

i love your flowers.

i love your signs and treasures painted on buildings.

i love your colorful stores.

i also love how you are a wee bit dangerous.
making us feel lucky to have some german men with us to stroll your dark streets at night.
i've always had a thing for danger and mystery.

amsterdam, i think it's clear where we are headed.
i know i'm leaving your continent in three weeks, but i will come back for you.
i always have.
you are the bomb.com, the bees knees, the cheese to my macaroni.
also, i want to live here:

until we meet again.
yours,
hayley

colors of amsterdam

back in december, i experienced amsterdam for the first time.
i set off, alone, by train to meet up with my mom, uncle, and two family friends for a few days together before christmas. i posted photos of those days here.
but totally forgot about the days after christmas, when it was just mi mama y yo in amsterdam, before she flew back home.
so, only a few months late...i give you...more amsterdam!

how tasty does that cake look?
and i love how spring and summer-ish it is, you barely noticed the christmas ornaments behind it.

amsterdam is known for it's beautiful flowers-even in the winter!
and the tiled art is, and was, gorgeous in the city center.

some scenes from the outdoor market place.

beautiful art + architecture...two of my favorite things :)
+++
and these buddhas are my favorite.
i wish i could have bought one/some to take home with me...not sure if it would fit in my luggage though :(

amsterdam is a wonderful city.
it's become one of my favorites for sure, and i tell everyone that when they ask.
i think a lot of people associate it only with drugs, and sex...but there is so much more history, culture, and art there. it's a city i wish everyone could experience.
stay tuned in a few weeks for amsterdam in the spring time. i'm headed there next week with kendall when she arrives!
