weekend recap: sacramento county fair

last sunday we gathered the troops,
[and by troops, i mean dad, kate, j, and myself]
and went to the sacramento county fair at cal expo.

i have a thing for fairs.
i don't particularly enjoy the smells or the crowds, but the charm of old school rides, ferris wheels, merry-go-rounds, i dig it.

what i don't dig so much...
animals.
in any form.
so, you know that i love my family because i went through this:
baby livestock

hairy, scottish cows (?)

side note: turkey's are the ugliest animals in the world.
amen.

'twas a lovely saturday afternoon.
the event took place in old town sac, which is one of my favorite parts of the city, and featured some awesome bands ranging from country, to folk, and even zydeco. this was the first year i went, but i would love to go again, and definitely recommend it to anyone in the area.

i've had a ton of other stuff going on, and even more pictures to prove it. i'm hoping to get caught up with it all on the blog soon!
hope everyone had a great memorial day weekend :)

until next time, maurice

the world lost an amazing, influential, brilliant man today.
the educator, lover of children's literature, and future parent in me is saddened by his leaving but I know that his legacy will live on forever.
if you haven't already, go listen to the npr tribute filled with interviews and bits of his life.
i imagine any time spent with him would be a dream come true.

i may, or may not, cry reading his books to my own wild things tomorrow.
until next time, mr. sendak
"i wish you, all good things"

tuesday night market

every tuesday night during the warm summer months, downtown roseville closes the main drag for an open market and car show. this last week, mama and i decided to walk down to the festivities.

the weather and lighting were perfect and provided a great backdrop for the evening.

i'm looking forward to more market nights, since the new house is just a few blocks away!
