alright people, this post is long overdue. i apologize for taking so long in posting it, but every time i started to, i just got sad and weird about being in america. actually i still am, but whatever.
enjoy!
if you followed me on my adventure via instagram, then you have seen these photos already.

but maybe you would like more of an explanation, or maybe you didn't follow.
regardless, here we go:
the day started out well. i had major anxiety so i had some breakfast beers and made it to the airport with lots of time to spare. which didn't matter because my flight from sacramento to seattle was delayed by an hour and forty minutes. so i was pretty positive i'd miss my connecting flight to amsterdam.
spoiler alert: i did.
apparently i have horrible luck with flying internationally. remember when i tried to come home last time?
long story short, there were two of us scheduled to be on that flight to amsterdam. myself, and ian.
ian and i were let off of the plane first and told that they would be waiting for us to take us to another terminal. well, they weren't and we had to run like hell through the airport and onto a tram to the international terminal. during the fastest sprint of my life, my back pack flew open, my sandal tore apart and my strapless dress didn't want to stay put on the ta-ta's.
none of this is false.
we got to the terminal just in time to see the plane slowly pull away from the boarding tunnel. just like a movie, really.
so ian and i went to book a new flight and i was just a hot mess.
tears, minimal nip slip, broken shoe, lost a sandwich in the 'm' terminal, the works.
meanwhile on the other side of the world, henning still had to go to amsterdam and spend the night in the super cool hotel that we were supposed to stay together.
i just wanted to get to my man and my favorite country, but i quickly got over it when alaskan airlines put us up in a pretty swanky hotel.
i mean, i got to eat this:
and sleep here:
anyway, i finally made it to amsterdam after flying with delta, which i love. delta, i'll promote you if you give me free flights...just saying.
finally got to my german, and i got to see the cool hotel for a few hours until we took the train back to osnabruck. i passed out [finally], because i never sleep on planes, we went to jan's so i could see ma frennns and watch some
the next day we woke up extra early
[basically a nap from three to six in the morning]
to head to frankfurt via train to see my bff, laycee, and her german hubs, kevin.
we stopped for a little bit in cologne on the way home to see the dom:
on the first weekend there we had wolfgang's birthday, and a good bye party for chelsea, the au pair after me, and it was kinda like this, only this time we went to the club at 4:30 in the am...go europe!
and the rest of my time in osna was spent watching football, drinking, and hanging with family and friends.
blissful, really.
in between all of this, henning and i got to spend two nights at the north sea at his uncle's little vacation cottage, but that's another post for another day.
then i had to go home and it was the saddest thing ever. it always is when saying good bye to him, and them, and germany.
airplanes, airport restaurants, airport floor naps, exhaustion, and 24 hours of flying.
joy.
next up, the north sea. i'll be a better blogger.
promise.

Oh, I am so sorry that you missed your flight! :(
ReplyDeleteBut I am glad that you had such a great time and I can't wait to read about the North Sea, one of my most favorite places. :)
So sorry you missed your flight... that it seriously the most heart wrenching feeling ever since it feels like every single second counts. I'm glad you made it and it looks like you squeezed as much as possible into the time you had there. You and the boy are adorable :) Can't wait for more!

ps Delta is thebomb.com. Seriously, I have skymiles with them and they are the only airline I fly to and from the US. Knock on wood - they've never lost my luggage or been delayed on the SA --> LAX route in the four+ years that I've been flying with them. Let's hope I didn't just jinx it!
Always an adventure, and glad you got to get your doner fill while in Germany. I just got home and America is just so freaking weird.
ReplyDeleteawesome post :)
